Nowadays forensic science plays a vital role in our society as day by day increase in crime rates and all this pop culture had a big hand in showing its impact on the public as good or bad. This article explores the evolution of forensic science in pop culture, examining its impact on society and the field itself, its demerits and the growing unrealistic expectations from forensic scientists.
Sherlock Holmes, with his keen power of observation and detective reasoning, set the stage for forensic investigations his ideas would follow in literature and on screen from his time to present with time-by-time advancements. In many shows forensic science is portrayed in a very simple way, solving crimes using basic tools like fingerprint analysis and basic crime screen investigations As time passed by around the 1970s shows started depicting forensic science in more realistic forms like the use of forensic pathology and other more advanced techniques the main thing of earlier shows is that they present forensic evidence as a plot not, as a Central focus. in the 2000s a series released the most popular show 'CSI' showed the use of advanced forensic techniques, DNA analysis, ballistics etc. and from here problems started to rise leading to demerits in screen presentation.
One of the most influential portrayals of forensic science in pop culture came with the release of 'CSI' a television series that brings forensic science into the living room of millions of people and creates unrealistic expectations in public regarding evidence based on what they are on TV it portrays how easily we found evidence and get to the conclusion, use of advanced technologies. At present, there are many shows, documentaries, and series on forensic science portraying it to the world. Some shows accurately depict forensic techniques and some use creative liberties for entertainment purposes. it creates lots of misconceptions about the field.
Shows like "Forensic Files" often feature interviews with actual forensic scientists and investigators involved in cases for an actual representation of forensic science which cause so improves the working of our youth and interest in the forensic field some portray our forensic scientists as superheroes, brilliant, quirky and dedicated and this is true but in reality, it is important to know that forensic science is a field involving many different officials working together.
The popularity of forensic science in pop culture has had a profound impact on society's perception of what is good and bad as somehow it led to an increased awareness of forensic techniques and their role in solving crimes and inspired a new generation of forensic scientists' but it also sets misconceptions like every crime scene to yield clear and conclusive evidence or these evidences are infallible but in reality, forensic evidence can be complex and hard to be identified and other things use of other advanced technologies that are unrealistic these can be real but unnecessarily hyped by media and shows leaving unnatural impact behind.
Forensic science has become a staple of pop culture, keeping the population aware of its blend of science, and mysteries and somehow had a big hand in portraying it as a more interesting field in nowadays population. yes, sometimes it indeed portrays things in an exaggerated form but on other hand it have a good impact on the population. It has shaped many of our perceptions of crime and investigation and generated new enthusiasts in the forensic field. As technology continues to advance we can expect to see more realistic depictions of forensic investigation in future as well as a greater emphasis on the ethical and moral implications of using forensic evidence in criminal cases.
